Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

It is with a heart full of thankfulness...

From the December 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a heart full of thankfulness to God, also of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who has given to mankind this healing truth, that I wish to tell of a few of the many blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. While performing the duties of a nurse for a family in Egypt, I was taken ill with dysentery in such a severe form that the physician told the lady of the house that I would have to return to Europe at once, if I ever expected to get well. Instead of making preparations to leave, however, I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner in Basel and asked for treatment. A few days after my letter had reached its destination I was healed, and I have never had the slightest return of the trouble.

Soon after this the seven months' old child that was in my care had an attack of the same illness. The weather was very hot, unusually so even for Egypt, and the mother's fear for the little one was therefore very great. She knew nothing of Christian Science, so she called the physician. The child improved somewhat after a week, but the physician declared that if she should have a return of the attacks, the healing would take three years. A week later there was a recurrence of the trouble, but this time I applied to the faithful practitioner in Basel for help for the little one, having received the mother's permission to do this. She had no faith in Christian Science, but was willing to leave the child entirely in my care. The result was, that it recovered completely within a few days.

While on my journey to Egypt I was very seasick. Later when a summer's sojourn in Switzerland was contemplated, although this was a cause of great joy to me, at the same time I dreaded the sea voyage. I applied for Christian Science treatment, however, and was the only member of the party who was not seasick, all the other members being affected, despite the expensive drugs with which they had provided themselves. We had been in Switzerland only a month when one of the boys became afflicted with whooping-cough. As his mother had gained confidence in Christian Science through the results obtained, especially during the sea voyage, she consented to my writing to Basel for treatment, and in one week's time the boy was healed. Then the little girl in my care was stricken with the same ailment, and in her case also the trouble yielded to the truth in a very short time, to the astonishment of the parents and of all those about us.
