Mrs. Eddy says, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii) . Christian Science has brought me out of the wilderness of mortal thought into the marvelous light and freedom of truth as revealed in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This key indeed unlocks the door to the struggling children of men, and enables them to know God, and man as created in His image and likeness.
For twenty five years I suffered greatly from what the physicians called liver and stomach trouble in the worst form, together with rheumatism, which was said to have caused curvature of the spine. I was also said to have organic disease of the kidneys. In addition to all this, I could not walk without crutches. The attending physician said he could do no more for me, and advised my husband to have me drink beer and to try a change of scene, as he thought I would live only a short time. I could eat very little and was reduced to a mere skeleton. With starvation staring me in the face and the grave awaiting me, I was indeed in a pitiful condition.
We came to Oregon, and I thought my health would improve, but I found no permanent relief until it came through Christian Science. I asked a practitioner to call on me, but he was too busy, and I had to be content with absent treatment. He spoke of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, and after about three weeks of absent treatment I began to apply the truth for myself. I learned that the Principle and rule of Christian Science are both good, and also that only good can come to me if I live the truth as taught in Science and Health. In the Bible we read that the prodigal returned, after having fed on husks so long, and found both food and drink. I too found all that I needed, physically, mentally, and spiritually, and I can now say with our dear Leader, "Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of human hope and faith" (Science and Health, p. 45). I am at last free and a very healthy woman, and I know that Christian Science will bring the same blessings to all who accept and live the truth.
