I gladly avail myself of the privilege offered us to express our gratitude through the Christian Science periodicals. After the wonderful healing of my father through Christian Science, I turned to it for help in my own case. I had been weakly since childhood, and hardly ever felt well. When about eight years old, I began to suffer with severe headache of periodical recurrence, attended by most unpleasant symptoms. All the remedies which were applied, proved of no avail. The slightest emotion, especially when of a joyous nature, as well as the least physical effort, would induce the trouble, and I soon forgot what it meant to be free from pain. In addition I often had throat trouble, and later on other ills were added, including sleeplessness. A period of mental distress contributed toward making my condition almost unbearable.
My desire had always been to be able to be useful and active, but this seemed impossible except temporarily, and my studies often had to be interrupted. I almost collapsed from worry during my father's illness. I used to pray fervently, and although my prayers seemed to be unanswered, a deep longing made me turn to God. Eventually, however, when my need was greatest, divine help came through Christian Science.
With the first declaration of the truth in behalf of my father by a faithful Christian Scientist, he was freed from paralysis of the left side, which for two years had prevented him from speaking and walking. Then new hope came to us, and my father's condition continued to improve perceptibly. He had to be under medical supervision on account of his position, but a week later, to our great joy, the physician stated that my father was healed of a serious weakness of the heart for which the strongest remedies had been employed for weeks without bringing relief. With a sense of deep gratitude I now applied for help in Christian Science for myself. It required much love and patience on the practitioner's part, for there was a great deal that had to be overcome. Every declaration of the truth, however, brought help and more light. All the troubles above mentioned gradually disappeared through Christian Science treatment, until the healing was complete; nor was this all, for with the physical healing came a wealth of spiritual blessings for which I am unspeakably grateful.
