Gratitude impels me to give public expression to the blessings which my family and myself have received through Christian Science since we became acquainted with its teachings. About five years ago I was suddenly taken ill with severe stomach disorder, accompanied by cramps and ague, to which was added distressing neuralgic headache. My suffering was so intense that it made those around me feel miserable. We consulted a physician, but the many material remedies which he prescribed were unavailing; on the contrary there was a marked change for the worse. Neither was relief experienced, as we had hoped, by seeking the aid of a second physician.
After the latter had already given instructions for my removal to the hospital, a dear friend and Christian Scientist, to whose visit I had looked forward rather anxiously for some time, brought me the tidings of Christian Science. She explained to me that God is Love, that He sends no disease, and that I could become conscious of divine Love, which is the Life of all. I then had my first treatment. Before this friend went away she said I might eat whatever I pleased; and I enjoyed, as it were, a better appetite than had been the case for a good many weeks. With two or three treatments I felt like a new woman and was able to resume my activities.
Our boy, who is now sixteen years of age, has often experienced healing through Christian Science. From childhood on he was troubled with heavy dreams, which were tending to sleep-walking; but this condition was banished after a short period of treatment, and there has been no indication of it during the last five years. In the case of my husband, an acute attack of appendicitis was overcome instantly with one treatment, although the physician whom we had to consult owing to business considerations had counseled an operation.
