Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

With deep gratitude I think of...

From the December 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With deep gratitude I think of our wonderful deliverance and guidance out of utter darkness into the radiant light of divine Love. Some three years ago my daughter, now twenty two years old, became very ill. She suffered from severe pain in the hip joint, and it became necessary for her to lie down the greater part of the time, although even then she was only partially relieved. A well known surgeon at first seemed unable to determine the nature of the trouble, but after an X -ray examination stated that there was a tubercular affection of the bone and that the patient should be kept in bed. According to human expectation and medical belief she doubtless would have passed on after a long period of invalidism, but it proved true in our case that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." She had just been examined again by two professors of repute, whose opinion coincided with that of the former physician, and she was about to be X-rayed by another physician in order to ascertain the development of the disease, when divine Love directed my steps and through acquaintances led me to find the way of Truth and Life. It seemed to me like a revelation.

The next day I took my daughter to a Christian Science practitioner instead of to the physician. After the first treatment she was free from all pain and walked a good deal with me that same day, for we knew that God is our life and that we did not need to bow down to man made laws. She told me later that it was a wonderful hour to her, so clear was the presence of the Christ, Truth. She had absent treatment by the same practitioner for about a year, till we learned to walk in the straight and narrow path of Truth, and the healing was complete. She is now a strong, happy girl, a picture of health, and this is a matter of great wonderment to all our acquaintances who knew of her illness.

I could tell of many more blessings which I have experienced through Christian Science. I was always sickly, anemic, and nervous, had suffered from a serious affection of the knee for a long time, and the other knee seemed also to be affected. The physician's verdict was that I would be an invalid as long as I lived; but since I came to know that God is Love, and since I have learned to think aright, during which time I slowly worked upward with the occasional assistance of a faithful practitioner, I have been freed from all suffering. The trouble has completely disappeared, and I am able to walk for hours without experiencing fatigue or pain.
