I wish to testify to the efficacy of God's love in the healing of my son. Winter after winter, from the time he was a baby until he was fifteen years old, he had suffered from attacks of influenza which kept him in bed and out of school for periods varying from two weeks to two months. He usually had two attacks, and sometimes three. The last time the ailment manifested itself we determined to try Christian Science, in which we had become somewhat interested; but this attack was unusually severe, and the Christian Science treatment seemed absolutely without effect for three days. The night of the third day I spent in a despairing struggle between Christian Science and the wish for a doctor, but toward morning the latter won, and I telephoned the doctor to come as early as possible. He was a good physician and had taken care of my family for many years. When morning came, however, and brought with it the doctor, the sight of him seemed to create within me such a revulsion of feeling that I had all I could do to take the medicine and lay it on the table. As soon as the door closed on him, I telephoned the practitioner to come at once, and he came in a few minutes, as he lived near by. The prayers for the boy and the effort to realize God's omnipotence were continued, and at three o'clock that afternoon the change came.
I have witnessed the so-called breaking of many a fever, but I never saw one the intensity and completeness of which was as great as in this case. The boy went to sleep and slept for sixteen hours. I sat by him all night, wiping the moisture from his head and body without rousing him. When he awoke he was hungry. This was on Thursday. On Friday I kept him in the house with difficulty ; Saturday he was out at play with the other boys, and Monday he resumed school duties without one trace of illness left. I did not realize until long afterward that the revulsion of feeling which I experienced at the sight of the doctor was the breaking down of the last barrier I had erected against the all-power of divine Truth. I seemed to see clearly the contrast between the asserted power of material remedies and the power of God. That was seven years ago, and from that day to this there has been no return of the illness, even in the slightest degree.
We thank God continually for the healing of our child, and for the manner in which I was led so clearly to contrast the omnipotence of God with the power of man.—Oakland, Cal.
