It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me and mine. I did not come to it for physical benefit, but for the spiritual uplift. While I had taken medicine almost constantly for severe headaches and stomach trouble, I had become perfectly reconciled to these ills as being sent by God. I had been a church-member from childhood and attended Sunday school and church regularly. Many times have I recalled this Scripture: "When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him;" then my heart would cry out for a knowledge of God.
One day, before I began the study of Christian Science, I asked my Sunday school class why some one was not good enough to heal the sick now as the apostles did (we were then studying the book of Acts). Some of the class did not know, others thought the day of miracles had passed. The more I attended Sunday school and church, the more dissatisfied I became. My husband had reached this state of mind some years previous, so we began to go to other churches, to see if we could get something that would satisfy us; but we did not find it until four years ago, when my sister visited us. She had offered me Christian Science before, but it did not appeal to me. This time I told her if she had anything that would make me better and my home happier, I wanted it. She said, "I have it right here in Science and Health;" and I found it just as she said. It has enabled me to overcome a great sorrow, the passing on of my husband.
When I had been studying Christian Science about a year, I scalded both of my hands. My first thought was that I would not be able to wash the dishes after dinner, and the children were in school and could not help me; then it occurred to me to try to help myself in Christian Science. I picked up a pamphlet and read it about half through, then centered my thought upon the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). By that time the pain was gone, and although my hands felt a little uncomfortable when I washed the dishes, they were entirely healed in two hours.
