Testimonies of Healing

I cannot find words to express my...

From the September 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I cannot find words to express my gratitude for the good which has come to me through the power of Truth as revealed in Christian Science. About six years ago I was operated on for a malignant growth of the breast. Three of the best physicians in the county were present and pronounced the operation a success, although I had to carry my right arm in a sling for several months, as the operation had destroyed the use of it. In less than six months after leaving the sanitarium the growth had returned, and was four or five times larger than it had been before the operation. I then had five weeks' treatment by a lady who removed such growths by means of a salve, but I could not continue this treatment, as I was about to move from Missouri to California. As soon as I was located, I began treatment with a specialist, receiving two treatments daily, but the suffering was intense, and by that time had so weakened me that I could not stand another application of the "burner." This specialist told me that the disease had been in my system for twenty years. He was kind and sympathetic, as were the other physicians, and I know that they all did what they could to help me.

In two years it was again necessary for me to get help, so I consulted the best known specialist in Los Angeles. This physician, after treatment, pronounced me completely cured. He said that it was the most stubborn case he had met in his many years' experience with such cases. During the last few weeks of this treatment I boarded with a Christian Scientist, who lovingly loaned me some of her literature, and I became so interested that I purchased the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, before returning to my home in Glendora. I continued to read whenever I had an opportunity, although my family were much opposed to Christian Science.

After a time an internal trouble developed, and in addition I began to suffer from rheumatism. I heard that a Christian Science practitioner had come to our town, and he was asked to call on me. I had two weeks' treatment, with the result that my fears were allayed and I was much improved. I also gained complete use of the arm which was injured during the first operation. I then learned that I had Christian Science neighbors, and that they met and studied the Lesson-Sermons, so I began to study with them, receiving much comfort and help. In a few months an attack of bloody flux, an old ailment, was quickly overcome in Christian Science.
