It is with deep gratitude that I give my testimony of the healing power of Christian Science, in the hope that it may help others to realize that neither conditions nor surroundings can interrupt the channels of Truth, as we are taught in Christian Science. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has said that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need"(Science and Health, p. 494), and this I have proved for myself.
In the beginning of April, 1913, I was taken suddenly ill while away from home, and to satisfy the people with whom I was staying, a doctor was called. He said I was suffering from appendicitis and peritonitis and must go to a hospital for an immediate operation; he would not permit me to be taken to my home, which was only a few miles distant, or to the home of a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner. I, however, got a telephone message to the practitioner, asking for treatment, and she sent word back that God's ideas are all perfect. This message destroyed all fear, and although I was taken to the hospital for an immediate operation, by the time I arrived there I was so well that it was not considered necessary. I gradually recovered, and am glad to say that I have had no recurrence of the trouble, but have enjoyed perfect health since this experience. I can echo the beautiful words of our beloved Leader (Science and Health, p. 225), that "Love is the liberator." — Milngavie, Scotland.
I wish to verify the above statement of my sister. When I was sent for, I found her seemingly in a very serious condition with an exceptionally high temperature, but after one Christian Science treatment the surgeon on examination deemed an operation unnecessary. The relief was instantaneous. I may also mention that shortly afterward one of the members of our family took a severe chill, but got immediate relief after receiving Christian Science treatment. For these and many other blessings which have come to us, we are truly grateful.—
