Testimonies of Healing

From the April 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I can indeed say with Job, "I know that my redeemer liveth." Six years ago I came to Christian Science for the healing. I had had spells since a child when for weeks at a time I was unable to retain any food. I doctored for this, but was only helped temporarily. At the age of sixteen I was operated on for appendicitis, which our physician thought was the cause of the trouble; but this only aggravated the condition. Other physicians and their different modes of treatment were then tried, but I grew worse, and was again taken to the hospital. There a specialist who was called in said I had consumption of the bowels, and I was taken home in a very serious condition.

Our physician then said that materia medica could do no more for me and asked my mother to try Christian Science as a last resort. The practitioner on whom my mother called, immediately took up treatment for me, and the next morning, although I had not been able to walk for some time, I was able to go to see her. The healing was instantaneous. I went home, ate a hearty luncheon, and was able to retain the food, something I had not done for months. My friends were indeed surprised, for they never expected to see me out again. I also laid aside glasses, which had been worn constantly for over six years, and which it was said I would always have to wear.

Before this healing I never understood why I was not well and able to do the things other girls of the same age did; but my mother always told me that the innocent had to suffer for the wrongs of others. When the practitioner said that God is Love, and that I was His child, my consciousness was filled with that unspeakable peace which comes to us when we awake to the realization of His ever-presence. I knew that I had found the truth.
