Testimonies of Healing

My attention was called to Christian Science...

From the May 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My attention was called to Christian Science about twenty-five years ago through the healing of a woman who had been given up by various physicians. As I was then suffering from stomach trouble, I turned to Christian Science and took treatment for some time, but relief did not come until I began to study Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Then as the understanding of its teachings came I was healed. In those days we did not have the ample literature that we now have, nor were the Christian Science reading-rooms dotted all over the land as at present. I never realized the full value of the reading rooms which our dear Leader provided for us, until several years ago when I was many miles away from home and among strangers.

About twenty years ago I attended Christian Science meetings; then for various reasons I stopped doing so. Thus I never came in contact with Christian Scientists, and finally dropped the study; but the seed was sown and it never perished. About seven years ago I was again suffering from stomach trouble, and when requested to do something for myself I said that nothing but Christian Science could help me. With the consent of my husband I sought a friend who had been faithful to God and to Christian Science teaching, with the intention of taking treatments, but she lovingly said to me, "If you have ever been benefited by Christian Science, you ought to be able to do your own work." At first this seemed impossible, but I began to study again. Reading the Lesson-Sermon daily, taking time to study the Bible and Science and Health, praying the best way I knew, I was soon relieved.

In connection with the study I found the Wednesday evening meetings always helpful, and on my return home I usually studied earnestly the selections which had been read from the Bible. While so working and praying with a true motive, willing to be as a little child, God opened the way. My prayers were answered and demonstrations were made over ills and seeming trials. When necessary I have called for help, but I have been obliged to work, watch, and pray.
