Testimonies of Healing

In 1902 my attention was directed...

From the May 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN 1902 my attention was directed to the efficacy of Christian Science by the coming to me of a Christian Science practitioner and her little son, for both of whom I did some dental work, in a way which for some reason impressed me. At this time I was apparently in excellent health and quite well satisfied with the religion of my birth. Less than two years ago the pertinent and persistent remarks of those near to me caused me to entertain a fear that all was not as it should be. I at once consulted a physician, who diagnosed my case as one of exophthalmic goiter, and who also told me that from former cases of this same kind, he could offer but one sure means of relief, and that was an operation. This opinion, taken together with the remarks of those near me, induced a great fear, and from this came about God's opportunity.

Without inquiring of any one as to what had been done by means of Christian Science, but guided alone by the personal experience related above, I began to take Christian Science treatment and to study Science and Health. For fifteen years I had worn very heavy glasses for the correction of a structural defect of the eye, and had been told by various oculists that I could never hope to get along without wearing stronger and stronger lenses. Through the aid of a Christian Science practitioner and the constant study of the Bible, together with Science and Health and other writings by Mrs. Eddy, I have been absolutely healed of the goiter and all its attending symptoms, and have also had the extremely gratifying experience of being able to discard glasses. I now use my eyes as I never dared to do while wearing glasses, and can see very much better than at any time while dependent upon them.

Every one who has partaken of the fruits of his labor in God's vineyard is grateful beyond words, and no one is more so than I; but I am most grateful because I know that in this age a leaven is actively at work which is directing thought away from sense to Soul. It is indeed good to know that whoever with right desire and willingness reaches forth for a satisfying and demonstrable religion, has but to open the door, and Christ, Truth, will be revealed to him.
