With deep gratitude I wish to testify to the saving power of Truth in the case of a railway accident. On the evening of Dec. 24, 1913, I was in the express train going from Gröningen to The Hague, when suddenly the train began to shake violently, and after a few moments I was sitting on the floor of the compartment with my fellow passengers. I had just been reading a most helpful article in The Christian Science Monitor and had been quietly thinking. My thoughts being in harmony, I immediately realized that we were all safe, and was able to assure my fellow passengers that God was our protector, so that they all became calm. Soon the motion of the car ceased, and when we had been removed from the broken car and were safe with the other people, who stood together perplexed by the terrible accident (as I now understood it was), I felt my gratitude increasing. Afterward I saw in the gloom the suffering and the dying, and was thankful to do my part for their relief by silently working for harmony.
When we at last continued our journey, the women who were with me in the car remarked on how calm we all had been in such a terrible danger, and they were convinced their calmness had its origin in the thought of divine protection that I had given them. Then I fully realized my unspeakable gratitude and joy for the blessing of Christian Science, and for this proof of God's almighty governing love as revealed to us by the teachings of our beloved and loving Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Gröningen, Holland.
