Although the study of Christian Science was not taken up to gain physical benefit, I am today a better man physically, mentally, and morally in consequence of growth in the understanding of its Principle. During the past twelve years no material remedies of any sort have been used, but all discordant conditions have been overcome in Christian Science, including stomach disorder, sleeplessness, headaches, colds, and influenza.
It is, perhaps, in the business sphere that the clearest demonstration of Christian Science as an available help at all times has been received. For many years my business affairs were in a critical condition and a cause of much anxiety, but the change of thought that came through the study of Science and Health, together with the quietness and strength that ensued, was at once reflected in business conditions, which from that time steadily improved, and this without any special treatment. Relations with my fellow men became more loving and helpful, thus removing much friction, while the sense of competition and suspicion gave way to the apprehension of the rights of man and the affluence and goodness of God. As I progressed in understanding, evil habits lost their power, the smoking habit, which had become deeply rooted, being cured instantaneously. Furthermore, a violent and uncontrollable disposition is being proved a fallacy.
Recently there has been cause for gratitude not only for the temporal relief but for the increased understanding and growth resulting from this experience. Owing to the unsettled condition of affairs in Europe it seemed to sense as if all my business concerns would come to a stand-still; markets closed and new connections were seemingly impossible. After some time help was asked in Christian Science, and it was shown that a sense of fear and doubt had been set up, while a lack of love was causing particular difficulty. With this uncovering of error these conditions were quickly overcome and immediately the whole situation was altered. New channels have appeared in quite unlooked-for ways, simply through the recognition of the allness of good and the impotence of error in any form. I am thus realizing that just as the human self is set up mistakes are made, but when that self is lost and the real man sought, and found even in part, problems seemingly impossible are solved, difficulties disappear, and the reign of harmony is demonstrated as present, not far off or unattainable.
