I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. It has truly proven that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
Nearly three years ago I was in a critical condition, suffering from appendicitis. After a consultation the physicians agreed that there was also an obstruction of the bowels, besides another serious condition, which would call for a double operation. They could offer very little hope, but promised to do all in their power for me. Arrangements were made for the operation, but that evening a neighbor (not a Scientist herself) spoke to me about trying Christian Science, and I shall never forget what a blessed hope came to me. A practitioner was called and stayed with us about three hours. From a sense of suffering I was lulled to rest by the truth of God's omnipotence. I slept peacefully, and awoke next morning realizing that God is in all truth "a very present help in trouble."
My healing to mortal sense was slow, but I do not regret that it seemed so. Probably I studied more diligently than otherwise would have been the case. The doctor acknowledged that the healing was wonderful, yet I deem it as nothing compared with the spiritual help and understanding, which means life eternal. By reading Science and Health my husband has been healed of catarrh of the stomach, from which he suffered for fifteen years. This teaching has led us into the truth that not only heals the sick but heals the broken-hearted, and enables us to rise above a sense of limitation and discord into the realm of the real, where all is harmony.
