It was in January, 1912, that Christian Science was first brought to my notice as a means of physical healing. What little I had heard of it before this time was in criticism. Since childhood I had suffered from a severe nervous condition which as time went by steadily grew worse.
For about three years before taking up Christian Science I had been unable to sleep one night without becoming frightened and jumping out of bed, and gradually a great fear of insanity grew upon me. It was for this trouble I sought a Christian Science practitioner. The lady talked to me about this saving truth, treated me, and told me to repeat the Lord's Prayer that night when I went to bed. I did so, and fell asleep before the prayer was ended and slept like a babe all night. There have been several recurrences of the old trouble, but now there is scarcely a trace of it left.
For this healing I am more grateful than words can tell, but there have been other demonstrations for which I am just as grateful. After a month's study of Christian Science glasses which had been worn for fifteen years were laid off. An aggravated form of chronic bowel trouble was healed; also hemorrhoids, with which I would be in bed five or six weeks several times a year. I also suffered from a severe case of varicose veins, and had worn out one rubber stocking besides several rubber bandages; but after two months' study of the Bible, together with the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, the bandage was taken off and it has never been put on again. The leg is gradually improving as I realize the allness of God and man's relation to Him, and that the one Mind governs all. For these physical ills I took many medicines and was treated by doctors who did the best they could for me, but only temporary relief was received.
