When Christian Science came to me it was indeed the light that "shineth in darkness," and I am grateful for the privilege of giving my testimony. My days had been spent mostly in fear, sorrow, and sickness, for as a child I was considered delicate, and many laws of heredity were constantly held over me, one of which was insanity. When a young woman I met with an accident which resulted in an injury to the spine, and as the years passed by, one trouble after another developed. Partial paralysis of the lower bowel caused much suffering and doctoring. A chronic throat trouble, defective hearing, and catarrh made living miserable. After spending many years in search of health, I finally almost gave up in despair; then I was asked to look into Christian Science.
I had longed to know of this teaching, but my husband was a minister and I thought I ought not to make any change in my church, though I was not satisfied with its doctrines. However, I visited a Christian Science practitioner, and her loving explanation of God convinced me that I had found what I had been searching for all my life. I purchased a copy of Science and Health, also a Quarterly, and began to study. In a few days there was such a change that the members of my family noticed it. I no longer waited to have things done for me, but was able to do my own work without suffering. Curvature of the spine was overcome by the power of Truth, and mental depression passed away. I have used no material remedies since beginning the study of Science and Health. Heart disease, kidney trouble, and nervousness have been overcome, and although deafness and catarrh have not entirely disappeared, I know that all things are possible with God.
As a result of these beautiful proofs of God's power, my husband and three children are now students of Christian Science, and my husband and I are members of The Mother Church, also of the branch church here. We try to demonstrate for ourselves, and every problem that presents itself is worked out according to Principle, as taught in our textbook. The uplift that has come to us spiritually is wonderful, besides the physical, moral, and financial blessings, for which I am unable to express the gratitude that is due. We are grateful for all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, also for the Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor, which come to us regularly.
