About twenty-one years ago Christian Science was first presented to me by loyal adherents of this healing truth. As religion seemed of little consequence to me at that time, I failed to realize the beauty and value of its teachings, until a few years later, when compelled to turn to a higher power than human sense afforded to overcome what seemed an inevitable life of unhappiness. The Christian Science periodicals were sent to me occasionally, and I always enjoyed reading them. Gradually I became very much interested, because of the hope and encouragement these messengers of Truth contained, especially the testimonies, which revealed God to me as the Love that is "impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals" (Science and Health, p. 13). The adjustment of various mental troubles was greatly needed, and all material means had been exhausted.
Finally I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest, and began to read Science and Health daily with absolute faith and confidence in the truth therein. It seemed as if I had found a new world,—life never looked brighter, and the constant fear, worry, and dissatisfied state of mind that for years had seemed to separate me from happiness, began to fade away. The thought that I was forever at the mercy of these conditions disappeared entirely, and through numberless demonstrations I am satisfied that divine Principle is applicable to every human need.
Through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner my husband (although not a student of Christian Science) has been healed of deafness, after having been pronounced incurable by aurists both in this city and in Chicago. Several years ago, while living in the East, an abscess formed in his left ear, leaving it badly affected, and upon examination it was found that the drum was nearly destroyed. After medical treatment had been tried for some time without benefit, the thought of his hearing ever being restored was given up.
