When I first asked for help in Christian Science I hoped only for physical healing and expected no more. About a year before this my attention had been directed to this teaching by the gift of a copy of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. One day, soon after, on returning home greatly fatigued and suffering from cold, with every symptom of influenza, I picked up the book and read from its pages in a desultory sort of way for an hour or more, but with the result that a great sense of peace and calm came over me and I was entirely healed of every discordant condition.
My meager knowledge of spiritual healing, however, prevented me from realizing at that time the significance of the healing and its cause, so I laid the book aside, content like many others with the relief and harmony gained. Months went by, and the discordant physical conditions grew worse: an eye trouble which was considered hereditary and for which I had worn glasses thirteen years, also distressing headaches and nerve troubles to which I had been subject since a child.
There was a great sense of discouragement, as physicians and oculists seemed helpless and frankly admitted they could find no occasion for these troubles. But divine Love is always seeking to heal and save, and in such instances of human extremity never fails to meet our need. So when I turned to Christian Science and humbly asked for help, I not only received the physical healing but found much more. My experience was an instance of quick healing in many ways; also of slower healing, calculated to encourage those who seem to wait long and work much before the reward is obtained. The headaches were overcome quickly; the glasses were discarded after the first treatment and were never used again.
