Desire to express gratitude for many blessings received through Christian Science, together with the hope that in reading my experience others may be encouraged, impels me to send this testimony to the power of Truth to heal and save in times of accident and distress. While at work in the office where he was employed, a heavy storm window fell, striking my son on the hand and arm, the splintered glass lacerating the flesh and some of it remaining in the wounds. The full force of the blow seemed to be concentrated on one finger joint. He was taken to a near-by physician, who dressed the wounds and told the boy to come again the next day, as amputation of the finger joint might be necessary.
My son came from the doctor feeling very low-spirited, but I immediately began to know that God is equal to every emergency. After telling the boy that we would have the right kind of help, and that there could be no discord or loss, I went to the home of a Scientist friend, who telephoned to a practitioner, and treatment was taken up immediately. The next morning the doctor said the hand was a great deal better and that amputation was not necessary, but that the lacerated flesh on the injured joint would have to be cut away. This was done, the boy taking no anæsthetic. The doctor said that it would be about three weeks before the hand could be used, and that the arm must be kept in a sling. Under Christian Science treatment only half a day was lost from work, and the sling was discarded on the third day after the accident; on the fourth day my son went canoeing and paddled, and a week from the day the hand was hurt it was completely healed, with the exception of a few small scars.
Pride and bad temper, which seemed to have a strong hold on me, are slowly but surely being overcome through the study of Christian Science, and I am striving to put into practice what I understand. Lately several of my children have had measles. I worked in Christian Science for the youngest, a boy of eight, with the result that he was out on the third day. My little daughters were also taken ill. One of them did her own work in Science and was out in a week. The other little girl was out in five days.
