Testimonies of Healing

It is with pleasure that I express...

From the December 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with pleasure that I express my gratitude for the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. Up to the age of seventeen years I suffered from kidney trouble and catarrh. Doctors advised me to refrain from violent exercise, stating that it would make conditions worse. They also said my only hope was that I might outgrow these diseases. When sixteen years of age I started to learn the machinist's trade, but had to be constantly using some remedy that had been prescribed for me and was a regular attendant at the doctor's office for treatment. However, none of these remedies gave me any permanent relief, and my condition was such that I wondered how I could continue my work.

Some friends then sent a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy to our home, and later some Christian Scientists came to see us. I listened very closely to their remarks on this religion, and what they said was so sensible that it induced me to take up the study of the textbook, with the result that after a short time I was freed from the physical disorders to which I had been in bondage so long. There were so many references in Science and Health to the Bible healings by divine means that I became an earnest student of both books, and also attended the Christian Science Sunday school in a neighboring city until I was twenty years old.

Christian Science has healed me of blood poisoning, has enabled me to prove God's power over accidents or injuries, and has helped me to overcome fear, hatred, and resentment. One year ago, when I took a physical examination for insurance, the doctor's report on my policy was considered excellent by him. At present I am able to perform any necessary work in the locomotive works that I am called upon to do, with a sense of happiness and ambition to reflect as much as possible the presence of God, Love, who seems to the majority of my fellow workers like a being to be reckoned with after the change called death. I have had wonderful proofs right before them of God's protective care.
