Testimonies of Healing

Ten years have passed since I first...

From the December 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Ten years have passed since I first heard of Christian Science. Heart-burdened and homesick, wandering in the wilderness of material sense, my eyes caught sight of the words "Christian Science Reading Room" on the window of a room fitted up for that purpose in Hamilton, Ohio. For a moment I stood wondering what this meant. I had never heard of Christian Science before, and as I gazed at the words everything seemed to grow bright about me and I felt as though I had seen a vision. I ventured in, and I shall never forget the loving welcome from the one in charge. He recognized my need as I expressed a desire to know something about Christian Science, and asked me if I wished to see a practitioner. Without really knowing what he meant, I answered, "Yes."

When a sweet-faced woman met me and spoke the words which set me free, I was healed mentally, morally, and physically, for like Mary Magdalene I wept tears of repentance. The Bible had long been laid aside. I could not understand it, so I found no comfort in it; but as I listened and drank in the truth my whole nature was changed, and I left that place a happy woman. I was healed of chronic stomach trouble, which had caused me much suffering, and from that day until this I have eaten anything I wished without the least suffering. Later I was healed of blood poisoning after it had gone through my entire system. Indeed the physical healings have been many.

The peace of mind and the joy that have come to me through the study of Christian Science mean more than I have words to express. My only desire is to live a life of prayer and to let my light so shine that all may see and glorify our Father which is in heaven. I can truthfully say that Christian Science meets my every need,—mental, moral, physical, and financial. To those weary ones athirst in the desert of material sense I would say that Christian Science stands with outstretched arms, saying, Come, drink freely of the fountain of life. I have had class instruction and am a member of The Mother Church, also of the local church.—
