Testimonies of Healing

The benefits I have derived from...

From the December 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The benefits I have derived from the testimonies printed in the Christian Science periodicals, and from one in particular, which related the healing of a condition similar to mine, impel me to give my experience, knowing that in turn it will help some one else.

When I was four years old my right ear became diseased. I was taken to a physician, who prescribed a simple wash and said the condition was of no importance; but shortly afterward the sense of hearing left that ear entirely. At fourteen years of age I came to Chicago, and upon consulting a specialist who enjoys international fame, was advised to submit to an immediate operation. The operation which took place is called in medical terms a "radical mastoid," and was considered of sufficient interest to the medical profession to receive lengthy comment in the journals of the profession.

Most of the organs of hearing, including the drum, had sloughed away, and it was considered necessary to remove the remainder. After the operation treatments were given continuously for eighteen months. The condition remained latent during this period, but in about two years the trouble returned. Another doctor, who examined the ear, stated that the theory concerning mastoids had undergone a change, and that serum treatment had to a large degree superseded surgical operations. I accepted this form of treatment, and again the disease abated, but only temporarily.
