For some time I have felt that it is due to Christian Science to tell what this teaching has done for me and for my family. I was under a physician's care for over seventeen years, and had undergone one operation, but it was not a success. The attacks were very serious, and each time the physician insisted on performing another operation, saying I would not live long unless it was done. I, however, refused to be operated on again, and continued in that condition for nearly three years, gradually getting worse.
A dear friend, a Christian Scientist, then told me there were many blessings in store for me if I would turn to Christian Science for help; but I was like the people we read about in Luke. When the feast was prepared the servant was sent to them that were invited and said, "Come; for all things are now ready," and they all made excuses. I too made excuses, and went on until compelled to turn to God, the one great and only Physician, who healeth all our diseases and comforteth us in our sorrows.
I could not ride in a street car or in a cab because of extreme soreness in the bowels, and in order to get to the practitioner I walked, but very slowly, and was almost exhausted on reaching her home. I was with her about an hour and had gone about a block on my homeward trip when I found myself walking at my old gait, free from pain and all soreness gone. I continued on my way, so happy that I felt I could almost fly. As I realize now, my healing was instantaneous, but fear made me feel the need of having more work done for me, so two or three more treatments were given. At that time the healing seemed the greatest blessing that could ever come to me, and words failed me in expressing gratitude.
