My little girls have so often asked me to send in a testimony of the many blessings we have received in Christian Science, and we find the testimonies in the periodicals so helpful that I send mine hoping it may encourage other seekers after Truth. Four years ago I underwent several serious operations which upset me very much, and I became dreadfully nervous, irritable, and unhappy. I had always cared about religion, but nothing seemed to go right; and I used to get so depressed that I longed to die, although I had everything to make me happy in this world. A very dear sister who perceived how unhappy I was urged me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which had just been lent to her. Finally I did so to please her and much against my will. I did not like or understand the book, but I persevered; and before I had finished reading it, found that I could see quite well without my glasses. I had worn them for sixteen years and had been told by all the oculists I had visited that I would always have to wear them. I used to get bad headaches frequently, and always if I took off my glasses. I have not worn them now for over three years, and scarcely ever have even a slight headache.
At the time I began to read Science and Health I was taking several medicines, one of which I did not think I could live without; but after a few treatments I stopped taking them, and have never used material remedies since. Though I understood very little at first, I was able to help my little girls to overcome bad attacks of fever, throat trouble, the results of accidents, wasp stings, bad cuts, and numerous ailments common to children. Before knowing of Christian Science my children were continually getting ill and needing the doctor, and I was filled with fear for them; so it is such a blessing to know of this truth which heals all our sicknesses.
I could not live without Christian Science. It has helped me to overcome hate and resentment and a bad temper. I have been healed of bowel trouble and anæmia. My little girls have had several healings,—of nasal growths, an unsightly growth on the forehead, whooping cough, ophthalmia, and a dislocated arm. They have learned to apply the truth, and to keep error out of their thoughts. Financial difficulties have been straightened out. We were untouched in several Zeppelin raids, and came over to Egypt safely, though numerous submarines were about. One sank a transport ahead of us, but disappeared when we arrived to rescue the troops. I have read the Lesson-Sermon with my little girls ever since the eldest was six years old, and they enjoy the Monitor with its delightful page for children. I often find articles in the other periodicals which they can understand and enjoy.
