I wish that I could express the...

From the December 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish that I could express the gratitude which seeks for expression in regard to my health. While visiting in the northern part of the state I was out walking after a heavy rain which had made the ground very slippery, and I fell, striking my right hand and apparently breaking two bones. I began instantly to declare the truth, as we are taught in Christian Science, but when I tried to rise, I fell again and lost consciousness. The lady with me called to a man, and together they carried me to the house. When I regained consciousness I found that my right leg was badly hurt: the ligaments were pulled or twisted, and the bone seemed fractured. I could not lie down, so had to remain in a sitting position; I seemed helpless, and the fear of never walking again kept coming to my thought.

Though my friend was not a Christian Scientist, she did all she could to aid me, and sent for a neighboring Scientist, who came and stayed all night, reading to me and declaring the truth. The next day we were able to reach a practitioner by telephone, and absent treatment was commenced. In two weeks I was up and in six weeks took a long journey home by train. Through mental surgery alone the broken bones were set, and perfect healing resulted. God did all the work. I am a very busy housekeeper and do anything that I did before. I can walk as well as ever and use my hand as usual, notwithstanding the fact that at the time of this experience I was over sixty years old.

This is only one of many healings that I have experienced through clinging to the truth as taught in Christian Science, and I can never be grateful enough for having some understanding of God's all-power. I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy for revealing this beautiful truth to all mankind.— .
