Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my thankfulness...

From the December 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my thankfulness to God for all the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science, and to tell of one healing in particular. Five months previous to the birth of our son, I was helping my husband move some sections of heavy flooring. Neither of us gave a thought about my so-called delicate condition; but the next day I was seized with violent pains and other very discordant conditions. My husband and I worked, as we are taught in Christian Science, the greater part of that day and night, but with little relief to me. A practitioner was called the next morning and help was given. In twenty-four hours I was so much better that I called the practitioner on the telephone, and telling her of my improved condition, said I thought I would be able to handle the case myself; but the pains came back with seemingly greater violence, so that on the third morning I again asked for treatment.

To avoid details, I will say that loving, patient work was kept up until at the end of ten days I was healed. The healing did not come, however, until a mental strain between another member of our household and myself had been uncovered and destroyed in my consciousness. How beautiful it is to know that in Science we can and do refute the argument of all so-called physical laws, and take into account broken moral laws. Mrs. Eddy says, "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them"' (Miscellany, p. 210). Had my mind been free from all mortal strife, no amount of lifting could have caused me to suffer.

From a human viewpoint I am very grateful for this healing, and from a spiritual viewpoint I am more grateful, because the experience has taught me to be more obedient to the demands, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," and "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." As I have suffered no ill effects from the strain since the healing took place nearly four years ago. I may safely say that the healing is permanent.
