With a heart overflowing with gratitude I wish to express to the field my appreciation of Christian Science, and tell a few of my many reasons for thankfulness. At an early age, from a sense of duty, I joined the church to which my mother, and her parents before her, belonged, but I felt that sometime I would find a church which would be more in accordance with my belief; consequently I studied every religion and prayed to be led to the right one. It was not until I had left the church of my foreparents, of which I had for fourteen years been a member, that I was led to investigate Christian Science. I heard of this religion through a relative who was healed, and my first healing came later through this same person. Then a sermon preached against the teaching led me to study for myself. At first I was reluctant to accept it for fear of being mistaken; then I left it all to God to guide me, and after some time the sweetest sense of peace, even the peace which Jesus promised should come to those who love God, came to me.
Through the blessed ministry of this religion, I have seen many of the most fatal ills which afflict humanity overcome, sometimes instantaneously, and through absent treatment a dear one was healed of the tobacco habit. The birth of my youngest daughter was to me a wonderful experience, being absolutely painless. I was up the following day and every day thereafter.
If the path is sometimes rugged, we can well rejoice, knowing that greater joys are waiting. I am grateful to our Father for Mrs. Eddy's pure life and for her interpretation of Christ Jesus as given in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I value our helpful periodicals, which are indeed daily manna. I appreciate membership in The Mother Church and class instruction; and for the loyal ones "at the front," our Board of Directors, our lecturers, teachers, and practitioners, as well as for all good, I give thanks.—Leslie, Mich.
