With heartfelt gratitude I send this testimony, knowing that under God's loving guidance, through the far-reaching influence of our literature, it will go forth into all lands wherever there is some one waiting to be helped. About three years ago, after passing through a severe attack of acute lung trouble, which developed into tubercular disease of the lungs, I was advised by doctors in this city to go to a higher and drier locality, and as I had at that time great faith in the power of fresh air to overcome disease, I went to Saranac Lake in this state. Two weeks after arriving there and while awaiting admission to the sanatorium, my condition became so much worse that I had to be taken to a hospital to have constant care. I had two months' treatment at this hospital from several physicans. At the end of that time they wrote to my family saying they could do nothing for me and that I had better be taken home and given as much care as possible until the end came. I was then brought back to New York and two eminent specialists were called in, both of whom confirmed what the other doctors had said. Then followed months during which I had to lie in bed and have all my food fed to me. Finally my condition became so serious that I gave up all hope of recovery. I was greatly reduced in weight and could whisper only with effort.
At this seemingly hopeless stage of my illness a friend told me of his healing of a similar trouble years before, and so lovingly did he present Christian Science to me that I at once became interested in it. He left a copy of the Sentinel with me and I read each article several times. By the following evening my voice was restored and I was able to dictate a letter. Other Christian Science literature was sent to me and I obtained a copy of Science and Health. In ten days the fear of the severe cough had so far left me that I was able to sit up in a chair for half an hour. This was, indeed, a happy day; for I had not been able to sit up, in bed or out of it, for over nine months. From then on my recovery was rapid and steady. I gained in weight, and in two months was taking long walks. Just four months after I began to study this healing truth, I returned to my position. I have been back at work now over a year and a half, proving the nothingness of the physician's prediction, voiced before I went to Saranac Lake, that I would never again be able to work indoors.
This is only one of the many healings I have experienced since coming into Christian Science about two years ago. While I am grateful for all of these, what means more to me is the spiritual uplift, the peace and joy and happiness that have come to me. My heart goes out in unbounded thankfulness to the friends who have helped me over the rugged places, to those who are contributing such invaluable help through our literature, and above all to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I rejoice that I may in a small way help in bringing this saving truth to my fellow man, and my prayer is that I may become more worthy each day of the name Christian Scientist.— New York, N. Y.
