It is with a feeling of deep gratitude that I testify to the power of Christian Science. About three years ago my husband became interested in some meetings which were being held in Kalgoorlie. I was quite skeptical at first, till one day he brought home "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Filled with a sort of curiosity, I turned over the first few pages of the chapter on Prayer, and at once the consistency of the teaching appealed to my reason. I determined to investigate further, so regularly attended the meetings, read the literature, and in spite of many arguments and false beliefs of mortal mind, tried to follow the teaching to the best of my understanding. A testimony from a mother who had been helped in the healing of her little child by Mrs. Eddy's beautiful hymn, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14), led me to try to help my own baby. For months this child had been in a very precarious condition, and I had been feeding her a tablespoonful of nourishment every hour for some time, but still she seemed too delicate to digest and retain her food. With my own thought changed, however, and fear cast out through Christian Science, she began to improve steadily and she is now sturdy, strong, and rosy cheeked.
Another healing which occurred after I had been studying Christian Science a year, was that of quinsy, from which I had suffered periodically since childhood, each attack seeming to leave my throat more subject to infection and cold than before. With the loving help of a practitioner I was enabled to cast out fear, a belief in heredity, lockjaw, and a bowel trouble, also dating from childhood. The erroneous condition was overcome quickly and without a period of convalescence. I have not had a trace of sore throat or a cold since.
My young son was healed of a dislocated jaw in three days. The children are very receptive to the truth, and I am deeply grateful for the knowledge of Christian Science they are gaining in the Sunday school. A little motherless baby who has been in my care since one month old, and is now a year and five months old, has not had a dose of medicine since coming to me. Although the child weighed less than four pounds when born, and was deprived of her natural nourishment from birth, she is now a bonny, healthy, robust child. She has had nothing but Christian Science treatment when any discordant condition has arisen.
