EQUAL SUFFRAGE

From the October 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The golden rule, which Jesus states as follows: "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them," is a law which knows no distinctions, no partiality, no limitations. It means the same thing at all times, under all circumstances, to all people. It always sets forth the same pure, unselfish love which ever seeks its own in another's good. It implies equality of interest, of endeavor, of opportunity. It is an ideal humanity has been lifting up for centuries, which it has never yet perfectly fulfilled. It is as a foundation stone to every effort that would tend to insure right liberty and equality for all.

Mrs. Eddy's entire teaching of Christian Science is along this line, for she states positively in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 271), "The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science." Then any human problem, if dealt with in the way Christian Science points out, will include the spirit and substance of the golden rule.

In order to work out from this basis the equal rights of women so that they may come to be fully and practically acknowledged, there are various viewpoints in the human mind which must be understood; some of them can be purified and others must be eradicated.
