Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my gratitude to...

From the October 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude to God for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. I had suffered from enlarged glands all my life and had undergone three operations with only temporary relief. The doctor refused to operate again. Then the gland opened inwardly and my whole system was affected. Becoming discouraged I had decided to end my life, when some one advised me to try Christian Science. I borrowed the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and through reading it was healed of this trouble, also of fallen arches and bowel disorder. It is impossible for me to tell of the peace, happiness, and sense of freedom that came to me through the better understanding of God gained in Christian Science.

I forgot, however, to "stand porter at the door of thought," as Mrs. Eddy tells us to do (Science and Health, p. 392), and these ailments returned. I called on a practitioner for help and have again received my healing. I am learning to overcome sensitiveness, temper, fear, worry, and resentment. Glasses have been laid aside that I had worn for years. I am grateful to God that through the understanding of Christian Science the material belief of separation has been destroyed; my parents have been reunited, and discordant conditions have been overcome in the home. While on my way to a Wednesday evening meeting, I was thrown down by a motorcycle, but through the aid of a practitioner was able to go to church and enjoy the services, and I did not feel any sense of soreness or stiffness. I have also been healed of a cough, corns, and callousness under the foot. For all these blessings I am very grateful, but especially for the spiritual uplift, the better understanding of God, and the purification of thought.

During the winter of 1918 we received word that my sister was very ill. I went to Philadelphia, arriving Friday evening about nine o'clock. To sense my sister was about to pass on. I called her again and again but received no answer. I did not know what to do. I was alone in a strange city at night and full of fear that she would pass on before I could get help; but God was with me, and the thought came to telephone to a practitioner in Baltimore. She was at home and lovingly and faithfully helped us. Dining the night my sister's breathing became regular and the stiffness left her. In the morning I called up the practitioner again, saying that my sister was better but had not spoken to me. About half an hour later she asked to be put in a chair, and about two o'clock, while I was singing "Nearer, my God, to Thee," she arose, went into the other room, and played it on the piano. She continued playing the rest of the afternoon and on Tuesday morning came to Baltimore with me.
