The daughter of a clergyman and...

From the October 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The daughter of a clergyman and the wife of another, I was an agnostic for thirty years and lived the life of one. Toward the end of these years, troubles, sickness, and consequent heart searchings followed continuously and remorselessly, ending with the biggest trouble of my life. This last brought me up with a round turn, and a copy of Pope's ''Universal Prayer" put into my hand, started me to thinking earnestly. I knew then there must be something I had missed, and that it must be found.

Over three years ago I suffered severely from blood poisoning, but finally it was temporarily relieved by materia medica. About a year later it again broke out, worse than ever. I had long before this realized the limitations of materia medica, in fact the doctors had all been puzzled by my case, and suddenly the thought came to me to try Christian Science. This teaching had been explained to me somewhat and I had read some of the literature, but had not seemed able to understand it and was not greatly interested. I however put myself unreservedly in the hands of a practitioner and since then have studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and read the Journal and Sentinel, as well as other Science literature. My health is now entirely different, and my whole outlook on life has changed. With the help of a practitioner I have had two most rapid healings. An acute attack of inflammation of the lungs was completely overcome within twenty-four hours, and later a lump which came in the left breast, becoming rapidly harder and bigger, entirely disappeared in four days.

The giving of this testimony is the greatest pleasure I have ever had. Words fail when I try to express my gratitude to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy, who by her life and works has done more for humanity, including the uplift of womanhood, than anyone or anything since Christ Jesus was on this earth.—
