It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify to some of the many blessings which have come to me through the teachings of Christian Science. Before I took up the study of this subject, nearly fifteen years ago, my life was empty and discouraging. For several years I had been seeking some satisfactory explanation of the enigma of life. The religion of the Bible as taught by the churches did not appeal to me, and all the philosophies and systems of so-called mental science which I had looked into had sooner or later turned out to be will-o'-the-wisps.
After I had read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, straight through three or four times, my outlook became much brighter. I felt better in health and some physical troubles had been overcome without the use of material remedies. Besides this an interest in the Bible was awakened. Shortly afterwards the tobacco habit left me suddenly, and I have never again had the slightest desire to smoke. Just before I began to read Science and Health I attended a Christian Science service, but it did not appeal to me particularly, and I did not go to another for about six months. Since attending that second service I have never willingly missed one.
Throughout all the years during which I have been studying Christian Science, the past nine and a half of which have been spent mostly in India in a place where the climate is generally considered to be very trying for the greater part of the year, I have taken no medicine, but have relied solely upon Christian Science treatment when I have not been well, and I have never been absent from work or any other duty through illness. To a large extent I have been free from the physical complaints that are common in such a climate, and when I have been taken ill the trouble has almost always been overcome in quite an early stage.
