It is almost seven years since I first became interested in Christian Science, when at the home of my mother and stepfather. They had been students of this Science for six years, and it was the change in their lives that this religion had brought about which enabled me to see the truth of its teachings. From childhood I had always been sickly and nervous. At a very early age I learned to use tobacco, and in later years had some desire for drink, also used profane language. I thought these things were the real pleasures in life, but learned through suffering, sickness, and unhappiness that they do not bring any real happiness. I was in bondage to bowel, kidney, and stomach troubles, also an eruption of the skin.
It is needless to say that I was in need of healing. I used every remedy that I knew of and five doctors treated me. For two years and a half I took medicine steadily, tried dieting, and spent part of one summer at some springs in California, but there was only slight improvement. At last I asked my stepfather for Christian Science treatment and was quickly healed of profanity and of the physical ailments. I went home and earnestly took up the study of this healing truth, but four years passed before the desire for tobacco was entirely overcome.
I have been married for two years and a half, and my wife and I have relied on this guiding, governing divine Principle to solve all our daily problems. Every test of our faith has made us stronger on the side of God, who is an ever present help in time of trouble. In business we have found Christian Science an unfailing help; indeed, it offers a solution to all our problems, regardless of what the nature of them may be.
