In February, 1917, I lay prostrate in bed, unable to serve my family in any way, and believing that I had months of misery ahead of me, remembering two former unhappy periods before childbirth. This time things seemed worse than ever, and my physician told me he could do nothing to relieve me, except to prescribe two injections a day for a serious bowel condition. My thought turned to the testimonies I had read in a copy of the Sentinel given me at a Christian Science lecture the previous Sunday, and I began to think there must be help for me too. Two days later I asked a practitioner to come, and when she had talked to me only a few minutes I knew that I had found the truth, the solid foundation I had been seeking for—the rule of daily living. This dear friend worked lovingly and patiently with me for what seemed a long time. For fifteen days there was no action of the bowels, but at the end of that time I was free from a trouble that had bound me all my life, and have remained so. Other conditions supposed by many to be necessary at such a time yielded one by one until I was the joy and wonder of my family and friends.
Gratitude for such an experience can only be expressed by devotion to God. Many proofs of divine protection and supply are continually demonstrated in our home. I want to express my love and thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy, and to all those friends who are daily helping me to find the way.—Stratford, Conn.
