During the summer of 1911 a friend explained to me something of the healing work being accomplished through Christian Science. At that time I was very much under the belief of sickness, and was a constant sufferer from long-standing stomach and bowel trouble. For a long time I had hardly known what it was to have a good night's sleep, and for years I had been very thin and weak; indeed, I had been in ill health for over ten years. For four years I had been steadily under the treatment of competent physicians. I dieted most of the time, and was dosed daily by the doctors. Things had been going wrong for years in a business way also. I was a conscientious worker, but had no success. Four good positions were lost,—two because of bad health and two from causes which were entirely beyond my control. Each year I found myself more deeply in debt, and I became bitter and thoroughly discouraged. I felt that I was going downhill and I did not have much hope left.
Then, in 1911, a friend told me about Christian Science and lent me some Journals and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Very soon after that my affairs began to mend. The joy and hope I derived from my reading are beyond description. Later I went to a practitioner, and although my progress seemed slow to me, my healing has been thorough. Aside from the physical healing, I received great encouragement, and much understanding of the truth. I have been completely freed from the sicknesses mentioned, and also healed of severe headaches, head colds, and the tobacco habit. From a condition of constant illness I have been restored to a state of vigorous health and strength.
In the course of time the old beliefs of limitation and mortal striving were overcome also, and since then my progress in business has been steady. To-day I have a profitable business of my own and am blessed with a home and a small family. I am grateful that I can see that these are directly the gifts of God through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science. I owe all that I have to this teaching.—Bridgeport, Conn.
