Testimonies of Healing

I submit the following testimony,...

From the June 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I submit the following testimony, hoping it will be of some help to my fellow students of Christian Science. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for what this beautiful Christ, Truth, has done for me and mine. I did not seek Christian Science because of any physical difficulty; however, for the past ten years God has been my only Physician. The first time I attended a Christian Science service the peace and harmony which was reflected by the members of the congregation, the hymns, and the organ solo impressed me so much that from that time on I have striven to be an earnest student of Christian Science.

Very soon after I became interested in Christian Science I visited my mother, who lived in a very small town in which there were no Scientists, nor were there any nearer than fifty miles. It was in the winter, and while preparing for the journey, I experienced a great deal of fear, wondering what I should do if I should need treatment, not realizing at that time that God is everywhere; however I was very soon forced to prove this statement. A couple of weeks after my arrival I retired one night feeling perfectly well, but the next morning awakened with the sense of being very ill. Within a few hours I manifested pneumonia in its very worst form. My mother was not a Scientist and she became very frightened and asked me if I would not have a physician. I said No, "What God cannot do, man need not attempt" (Science and Health, p. 231); I had lost all fear and relied solely upon God. My daughter, who was with me, telegraphed to a practitioner in my home town for help and through absent treatment I was healed in three days. Saturday I went downstairs and the following Tuesday I traveled three hundred miles back to my home.

My healing was the cause of much interest in the neighborhood. One person said to my mother, "Your daughter was very ill, wasn't she? And she had no doctor." She was then told that my healing was the work of Christian Science. This neighbor said she had had a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy for several years, and she immediately began study. It is my privilege to be a member of The Mother Church and of the branch church in the city in which I live.—
