Testimonies of Healing

"O Lord, open thou my lips; and...

From the June 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise." It is with a grateful heart that I praise God for His wonderful works unto His children. I as one of His children have shared bountifully of His many blessings. Through Christian Science I have been healed of many discordant conditions, including stomach and bowel trouble, sprained ankle, headache, biliousness, backache, and sorrow. I also want to tell of the help I have received in regard to my baby. Before he came I relied wholly upon God for my health and care, and lived a perfectly normal life. The birth was normal and harmonious and during the whole experience God alone was my Physician.

When the baby was thirteen months old, he fell out of his carriage onto the bare floor, landing squarely on his face. I picked him up and immediately declared the truth about the situation. As it was nap time he took his food and slept two hours just as usual. While he slept I studied the week's Lesson-Sermon and did my mental work. At the end of his nap he awakened in the best of spirits. However, I discovered that his entire forehead was badly discolored, and there was a slight scratch on his upper lip. In the afternoon while he slept I again studied and meditated, and while doing so it came to me clearly that our demonstrations do not depend wholly upon any mere belief in God, but upon His goodness. I was reminded of the verse in Proverbs which says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding," and of Mrs. Eddy's correlative passage on page 161 of Miscellany, "Lest human reason becloud spiritual understanding, say not in thy heart: Sickness is possible because one's thought and conduct do not afford a sufficient defence against it. Trust in God, and 'He shall direct thy paths.'" Then I saw that God's law of perfection was governing the situation at that very moment, and that no matter what mortal mind might suggest to the contrary, no false suggestion could change the truth of being or annul God's perfect law. Needless to say, when I next looked at baby his forehead had assumed its normal, healthy color.

Daily I am learning that as fear, selfishness, irritability, impatience, and the like are being destroyed in my consciousness, and as courage, charity, love, and patience take their place, so as physical imperfections slip away, increasing strength, health, and freedom are enjoyed. For the Christian Science periodicals, for the wonderfully helpful Lesson-Sermons, and for the beautiful friendships that have been given me to enjoy, I am humbly and profoundly grateful.— Yonkers, N. Y.
