It is with heartfelt and loving...

From the July 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with heartfelt and loving gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science that I am sending this testimony, with the earnest hope that some one may' be helped as I have been by reading testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals. I did not come into Christian Science for any physical need, but because when this truth was first presented to me six years ago I was in the deepest trouble; life seemed unlivable, all was discord, sadness, and no hope of matters being any better; but "man's extremity is God's opportunity." One dear to me, having a slight knowledge of Christian Science, asked me to attend a service with her. I at that time had no wish for religion of any kind, and so went to my first Christian Science service in anything but a receptive frame of mind; however, during the time there I felt an atmosphere of peace which attracted me to attend further services. At first all seemed strange and difficult, but step by step as I tried to put each thought of evil out of consciousness I gained more light; I realized that I had to do my own mental work and no one else could do it for me; though I had many loving friends who helped and encouraged me, still it was my duty to work out my own salvation. My one desire was for an understanding of this truth, and, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1), "Desire is prayer."

Christian Science revealed to me a God who is Love, never sending sorrow or sickness to His creation; that man's birthright is dominion not subjection, and that as we turn humbly to divine Love for guidance, He never fails us. I had many difficulties after accepting Christian Science, but can now look back on each trial as necessary for my progress, and I learned how to put in place of wrong thoughts the true thoughts of God and of man made in His image and likeness. Christian Science has completely changed every discordant condition of my life, unraveled the problems, which no other religious teaching could have done, given me a demonstrable, perfect law of God, good, for my daily living, brought peace, love, and harmony into my home once more.

I am deeply grateful to God for leading me to Christian Science, and also to Mrs. Eddy, whose understanding was pure enough to enable her to reveal to poor, suffering humanity its God-given heritage of health and happiness.—
