Testimonies of Healing

Prior to taking up the study of...

From the November 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Prior to taking up the study of Christian Science I was most severely opposed to what it seemed to be, and condemned it bitterly. As time went on, however, I began to feel less opposition toward it, and finally, much to my own surprise, found myself willing to listen to an explanation of it. A friend was explaining to my wife the fundamental truth of Christian Science, that God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent good, and the meaning of those words began to dawn upon me. The next step in my progress of studying the subject was to prove whether these things were actually true, whether God really is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.

It was less than a week after this that a severe cold seemed to be developing in my head and throat. When similar attacks had appeared previously, as they did several times a year, they lasted about two weeks. The cold seemed to have made its usual rapid progress and I was in a pitiable condition, but I determined to use no material remedies whatever and declared that this was an opportunity to give Christian Science a fair trial. After doing so I went to bed, slept soundly all night, and was nearly dressed the next morning before I thought anything about the cold of the night before. I was completely healed, and absolutely free from all traces of a cold. This was convincing proof to me that a power greater than anything I had ever known had been operating and that that power was God. This grain of understanding filled me with gratitude, and since this experience I have relied entirely on God to heal all my diseases, and am grateful to say He has always met my needs.

Surely God is all power, all Science and everywhere present, as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, plainly states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" beginning on page 10: "The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,—Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science.—contradict forever the belief that matter can be actual. These eternal verities reveal primeval existence as the radiant reality of God's creation, in which all that He has made is pronounced by His wisdom good."—
