Testimonies of Healing

I am writing this testimony with...

From the February 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am writing this testimony with a deep sense of gratitude for the light and peace that Christian Science has brought to me. I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. For many years I had given religion in general a wide berth, because I was not satisfied with its teachings. During that time great sorrows came into my life, also diseases of many kinds, and losing all hope of happiness in this life and of salvation in another, I took to drink and led a sinful and sensuous life, reveling in the thought that I was going quickly to my doom, till I was well on the verge of madness, and began contemplating suicide. Then I met my wife, who was a Christian Scientist, and who before our marriage asked me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, the result being that a change came over me. I gave up drink readily and refrained from sinning. Gradually, even without my perceiving it, periodical fevers, which I used to have, disappeared. I realized that I was becoming more interested in the study every day and was also becoming a better man, even though I had not then gained a very clear understanding of divine Principle. Later the crucial moment came and my faith was put to the test. Being an engineer, I was employed irregularly at times, and failing to guard against error I lost my situation at a time when there was much unemployment in England, and our means were very limited. I then seriously turned to God for support, and through the teachings of Christian Science and the aid of a practitioner I was enabled in a few days to demonstrate that there is no power apart from God, and that there can be no laws, power, or influence that can separate man from God. Just at the time when I was writing an application for a situation that had been advertised in the paper, I received a telegram pertaining to an application that had apparently failed, and obtained a situation much beyond my expectation.

Thus I am grateful not only for succeeding in securing a better berth, but also for the proof that Truth never fails us, and that by seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, that which is needful is added.—
