Testimonies of Healing

It is difficult to find words with...

From the February 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is difficult to find words with which to express gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. Christian Science was introduced to me by a friend, whom I first met at a convalescent home, where I had occasion to stay after a Ions? illness. This friend was not the least bit interested in Christian Science herself, but she had heard of a case of healing in her neighborhood and knowing, as she did, that I was in a very bad physical condition, she got some Christian Science literature and sent it to me to read and urged me to try it. I had never before heard the name "Christian Science," nor had I ever seen anything in the way of literature on the subject, nor did I know that there was such a church, and because of this it all seemed very strange to me at first.

I read the Sentinels which my friend had sent me, and was much impressed by all the good things they contained. Some few days later, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy came into the home where I was living at that time (in England), and it was given me to read. It all seemed so wonderful. and I then began to study the Lesson-Sermon. Longing to know more I would read for hours. It showed me so clearly that sickness is not a part of the real child of God, but only a false belief. The light of Truth began to dawn upon me, and I felt that some new hope of life was near. I had never really known what it meant to be well and strong, and this new life now seemed to shine before my eyes and I knew that there was some truth in Christian Science, so I went forward to seek all the knowledge I could. I went to my first testimony meeting (at that time there was only one church in England I and was so much impressed with all I heard from people who had been healed that very soon afterwards I began to take treatment. I was suffering from an internal condition which materia medica had failed to help. I had been under the care of several physicians and had also been in hospitals, previous to hearing of Christian Science. After I began to take treatment I immediately began to improve in health. I was soon healed of the discordant condition, and many other troubles left me one by one. That was nearly eighteen years ago, and that condition has never returned. I am now strong and well.

Although my gratitude for the physical healing is great it seems slight when compared with that for the spiritual awakening and the understanding which I have gained year by year, through the study of the Christian Science textbook, and the light it has shed upon the study of the Bible; and also the help that I have gained from the Christian Science periodicals, which Mrs. Eddy gave to the world to heal and bless all mankind. It was the literature which led me to the study of Science and Health, where I found the food that I needed eighteen years ago, and that food has sustained my thought day by day ever since; it has never failed me. whenever I have applied it aright, and all I am and all I have I owe to the knowledge I have gained through the constant study of the Bible and Science and Health. I am earnestly striving to know more of God and to live nearer to Him in thought day by day. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science, grateful to God, to Christ Jesus the Way-shower, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who was found pure enough to give to the world this great truth, a religion so practical, so pure, so simple, that it can be applied to every little detail of our daily lives.—
