With a heart full of gratitude I write this testimony in the hope that it will help some one who is drifting with the tide as I was when Christian Science found me. A little more than six years ago I made my first visit to a Christian Science church. When I went into the church I was full of doubt and fear, but when I came out I was sure I had found the religion I so much needed. The next day I went to the reading room, waited for the opening hour, and bought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'' by Mary Baker Eddy and have read the Lesson-Sermon daily ever since. Through reading the Bible, Science and Health, and Mrs. Eddy's other writings, and all the literature I could get hold of, in three months I was healed of the liquor and tobacco habits and of gambling, which I had indulged in for many years, and in six months I laid away glasses which I had worn for twelve years.
Four years ago I was taken sick with ptomaine poisoning. I tried all night to work out my own salvation from this discord, but did not get the desired relief. I telephoned to a practitioner for help and in one hour's time I took the stage home, a distance of twenty-three miles: I was healed. About two months later I had hiccoughs for forty-eight hours. I called up a practitioner over a public telephone. After I hung up the receiver several people advised me to get a doctor, but I told them I was all right, and I put my trust in God. By the time I had walked four blocks I was free from hiccoughs. I have had many other healings through the earnest study and practice of what I know of Christian Science. On page 3 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says. "His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God's rule in order to receive His blessing, which enables us to work out our own salvation."
I cannot find words with which to express thankfulness to God and gratitude to Christ Jesus, and also to Mrs. Eddy, who again revealed to mankind this new-old religion. I am also grateful to all who have so lovingly helped me to understand the truth.—Westport, Washington.
