The blessed years of freedom from bondage to material law, materia medica, and the many ills to which flesh is heir, prompt the sending of this testimony in grateful appreciation of those from others, which, together with the articles in our periodicals—those impersonal missionaries—ever serve to encourage, inspire, and enlighten.
A critical operation for the removal of one kidney in preparation for which strong medicine was being taken every two hours was obviated by the happy and unexpected visit to a friend, for an afternoon, who spoke at length of Christian Science and the healing she had experienced of sciatic rheumatism. Thoroughly impressed and realizing even then that "God is no respecter of persons" I immediately cast aside the medicine and asked for Christian Science treatment, with the result that in less than a week the healing was complete. The second enemy to be routed and vanquished was severe tonsillitis, which previous to my coming into Science appeared annually, lasting from four to six weeks. The last attack was nine years ago, and a so-called tender throat, sensitive to every change in the weather, has been normal ever since. Freedom in this instance was experienced through realizing the truth expressed in one of our hymns (No. 81):—
In atmosphere of love divine.
We live, and move, and breathe.
