In a recent public lecture on Christian Science...

From the October 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In a recent public lecture on Christian Science by a member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, it was explained that when a patient is healed by the application of God's law as revealed in Christian Science, he generally knows that he is healed, that the healing is of God, and he gives to God the glory, with the joy and gratitude which always follow spiritual healing. This part of the lecture brought to me a renewed sense of thankfulness that my first personal experience with Christian Science healing had been unmistakably of that description. This occurred about eight years ago, and the physical discord was that of the so-called grippe.

Having been to a Christian Science church but a few times, I knew nothing of the work of the practitioners, who lovingly devote all their time to the redemption of humanity from false beliefs; and my best impulse was to ask a friend for help. After a day which did seem long, and during which I had felt most feverish and full of aches, I went home and seemed impelled to take a nap before dinner time. Thirty minutes later, I wakened to find that I was buoyant with physical freedom. Having resorted to no material means, I was able to give to God the entire glory; and this brought to me a sense of joy, which I did not then understand and which has been the only recurring feature of the incident. My abiding consciousness that God's work was then done has been, to an immeasurable extent, responsible for my comparative freedom from physical ailments. However, I had to learn by degrees how wonderfully the divine Principle does operate to bring into my experience unnumbered instances of God's protecting care, in just the proportion that I learn to surrender an erroneous sense of personal responsibility to the true concept of God, as the source of all wisdom, power, and law. Already, the results of this surrender have been manifested at three different times in a much better position, also in an harmonious home, in a joyful activity in the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and in the endeavor to prove loyal to the teachings of the Bible, to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and our Manual by Mrs. Eddy.

For all of the benefits which the world is universally receiving from the application of this truth, I wish to express gratitude to God,—for Christian Science, for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the true followers of the Christ, who have helped me and others along the way. I know that I can prove this gratitude in no other way than by a constant endeavor to stand ready to serve under God's law of ever present opportunity.—
