By showing us our true selfhood, made in our Father's likeness, the truths revealed in Christian Science satisfy abundantly; and we learn how to make the vision real. To emerge from the constant fear of weakness and pain, out of the limited human sense of being and accomplishment, into the freedom and true values of God's spiritual universe, is joy unspeakable. Life has been utterly transformed for me through the understanding of God's Word gained in this study. By the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, begun in the winter of 1918-1919, an almost immediate stop was put to hemorrhages from the stomach, caused by the condition known as gastric ulcers. An operation and years of dieting had failed to relieve this trouble, and surgeons said another operation could not safely be performed. Then through the faithfulness of a loving practitioner more harmony of mind and body began to be realized; and soon a day came when I could feel entirely free from pain, after years of continued weakness and suffering.
The way has seemed steep at times, and other manifestations have seemed slow in disappearing; but the lessons have all been needed. Each inharmonious condition has driven me more steadily to try to understand the true laws governing man and to rise to demonstration. Where I had looked forward to nothing but invalidism and pain, now I am blessed in being able to take an active part in the world's work. The gratitude I feel transcends all expression; and I daily pray that my life may show obedience to Principle, may reflect more and more of divine Love and wisdom. The long-loved promises of Scripture are daily unfolding new truths; and only by loving service and ever upward progress can I translate into effective terms the debt I owe to Mrs. Eddy, and to her faithful followers, who have helped illuminate the way.— Oklahoma City, Okla.
