In the Manual of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, Mrs. Eddy placed the following By-law under the heading ''Daily Prayer" (Art. VIII, Sect. 4): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: 'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!"
No sincere Christian Scientist can use this prayer daily without soon experiencing an awakening to universal, impartial, divine Love. This daily prayer going forth from many thousands in all lands is causing a change in the customs of the kingdoms of this world. The seven thunders of evil, it may be, are uttering their voices in a vain effort to silence the "still small voice" of Truth, which is fast gathering together, out of all nations, those who will listen and respond, into one happy family and one righteous kingdom. We are not disturbed by the seeming noises of evil, because we understand that the angel of God controls the destinies of men; and we read in Revelation, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."
Many evil and untrue accusations are made against man and his Maker. False belief is the accuser; and Christ, Truth, is the healer and Savior. For example, there may be many false beliefs about the result of multiplying two by two in arithmetic; while there is but one truth about it, namely, that two multiplied by two equals four. In the same way, there seem to be many false beliefs about man. But Christian Science, in applying the teachings of Jesus, is proving that the one and only truth about man is that he is the offspring of Spirit, God; that he is a citizen of heaven; and that he is spiritual and not material. The reason for governments and codes of law in this world is that all men are not as yet fully obedient to the law of God,—to the rule of Truth and Love within. Jesus needed no man-made law to make him do right. His conception of law, being spiritual and perfect, so far exceeded the highest human concept of law or government that his career and teachings made a new era for all the world, and established a higher order of life for all who accepted his way of salvation. Human codes are for the purpose of restraining crime, injustice, selfishness, and tyranny, until the law of God rules supreme in every heart. Thus, human codes at best are temporary and limited; and the Christian Scientist realizes that reforms and improvements in these codes will come in the exact proportion that more of Truth and Love is understood, practiced, and taught.
