I wish to express my gratitude for the many benefits I have received through Christian Science. For a great many years I had been a sufferer from gallstones, until ultimately for ten weeks I was unable to eat anything except in liquid form. This was in May, 1918. After suffering through all this time, I was informed by the doctors that as the gall duct was completely closed, my only hope was to have an operation to remove the obstruction. For four weeks after the operation had been performed, I lay in the hospital in a very precarious condition, scarcely able to speak sometimes because I was so weak, and making no progress toward recovery. The doctors and nurses had done all they could for me, and evidently (as I have found out since) did not expect me to survive.
We had been somewhat interested in Christian Science sometime before this, through friends who were members of the Christian Science church in Orange; and my husband and our daughter decided to call on a Christian Science practitioner and ask her to take my case. The practitioner very kindly consented to give me a treatment, and I am happy to say that I at once felt better. The nurses who were attending me expressed their surprise at my greatly improved condition, for I was able to take a little substantial nourishment. I continued to improve for the next few days, so that I was able to leave the hospital and return to my home. In a few more weeks I was entirely well again, and able to perform my usual duties. That was four years ago. I gladly testify that I have been a well woman ever since, with no symptoms of any return of the former trouble, and can rejoice in a complete and permanent recovery.
