[Written for the Journal]

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

From the October 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear God, for all that Thou hast ever sent me.
My heart goes out to Thee in gratitude.
Instead of woe and sorrow that may tempt me,
I shall rejoice, in humble attitude.

For since I know that Thou art omnipresent,
I find nor cause for grief, nor fear, nor pain;
And situations howsoe'er unpleasant,
I will count opportunities for gain.

My seeming trials, my most dire afflictions,
Are but as tests to prove my faith in Thee.
In place of them come loving benedictions
To bring me nearer, ever nearer Thee.

Wherever in Thy wisdom Thou shalt lead me,
If I but keep my trusting hand in Thine,
I know, dear Lord, that Thou wilt ne'er forsake me;
I know Thy life, Thy truth, Thy love are mine.

Now, I'll not fear, whatever may betide me.
I'll firmly put my trust, dear Lord, in Thee.
I know that Thou art ever close beside me,
And knowing this, what harm can come to me?
